Yay...I pissed RPG off...that's nice...I guess. ^_^;

And while you're right that there are (a few) more enemies in m5, I usually get too cautious, especially since I get so pissed off that tech points don't count whenever I get hit while firing... >_> Usually I get hit by an Artificial Chaos during the "rides," which usually mess up my runs...

I think I actually messed up at the end, because the stupid lock-on wouldn't target the orange containers. Stupid enemies... >_<

I watched my video closely and saw how many of each type of tech point I got:
Perfect: 16 x 2000 = 32000
Extreme: 2 x 1500 = 3000
Awesome: 3 x 1000 = 3000
Tight: 1 x 800 = 800
Radical: 5 x 600 = 3000
Cool: 3 x 500 = 1500
Jammin': 7 x 400 = 2800
Great: 7 x 300 = 2100
Nice: 5 x 200 = 1000
Good: 8 x 100 = 800

So, I got a total of...50000 points due to tech points. And 3160 due to rings. I think I'm all right there.

My time was 7:59:39. Was I going too slow?

Here's how many points I had at each checkpoint. Feel free to point out if I didn't get a good score at a particular checkpoint...
1st checkpoint: 17170
2nd checkpoint: 23560
3rd checkpoint: 31770
4th checkpoint: 71120
5th checkpoint: 82060
6th checkpoint: 105050
End: 150450 (+1620 time bonus) = 152070.
Hay guiz, I made a table showing how many points each game tracked by TSC is worth. You should go see it.
Also v2.0 of my TSC calculator is available to use. You should totally use it.
I update these every Monday around 2:30pm GMT.

Right, I'm writing this as both Missions, anything thats just for Mission 5 at any point will be in italics, such as where there are extra enemies or some such.

Before we start, if you take the time to collect every point in the level, its much more point-effective than to finish in say 8:30 and get a minimal time bonus. As long as you finish in under 15:00:00, your run is valid.

Up to Checkpoint 1

Lock onto the capsule/s in front of you, hover up and get all the locks ons you can while hovering up to the next platform.

Using the enemies here and 2 on the platform above, you can get Perfect from the lock-ons.

Carry on round just generally smacking up as many lock-ons as possible, Its possible to get an Awesome up here, possibly higher, grab all the Rings.

Go up and grab the Rings by the weight, and get a Perfect from the hornet+whirly green things (WGTs) on the platform above.

Go up and combo the enemies at the top of the weight and on the platofmr just above. Up this next section is a FIELD of lock-ons. If you dont get 2 Perfects out of all the shootable stuff up there, you did something wrong D: Carry on up and round after wasting everything, being even more cautious of the long tendrils of the AC's on M5.

Grab all the rings and lock onto the 5 beetles. Hit the checkpoint for +20 rings/+200 Points.

Up to Checkpoint 2

Make your way up these platforms, try and combo the AC's, WGTs and Hornets for maxxx points.

And then you run straight and your at the check. Short segment.

Up to Checkpoint 3

And now we take a detour, hover up to the platform ahead and then hover to the right and go up the Mystic Melody path. Blow up the meteora (hooray, 20 points, and combo the 3 enemies at the top and get the extra life and smash up the pyramid. We just earned 520 Points. Yay.

Drop back down to the main path and jump up, combign the AC and the beetles, grab the rings and head up the spring.

Make your way up this verticle section, combo EVRERYTHING you can reach with the lock-on laser. Its helpful to lock onto enemies on a lower platform, then use a spring to get height and spin the thumbstick for extra lock-ons.

When you get to the top, ONLY lock onto the 10 enemies floating in the air to begin with; Dont try and fall for the 11th lock on, as the 10 above fall out of range.

Hit the cehck and receive your Lightning Shield.

Up to Checkpoint 4

Finally, we come to a part that yields LOTS of Points.

First things first, and thanks to SM for this information, the cannisters along the path dont give a set amount of points: they just give you points infintly until there out of the visplane. Lock on and shoot early, no fancy comboing here, until your past the section with cannisters.

In Mission 5 there are a few AC's on the rail itself. Crashing into them is VERY bad so make sure you take them out, losing a Perfect bonus just because you fired too late SUCKS big time.

Lock onto the beetles just before the curve, then be prepared to smack the cannisters about a bit. You'll turn another corner, then smack some more about. After this, just combo up EVERYTHING in sight, shouldn't be too challenging. After the rail the Checkpoint is directly ahead.

Up to Checkpoint 5

Yay another vertical climb. Make sure you get a Perfect from the Hornet and AC in the bottom of this room.

When you get to the drop, combo the enemies in 'groups' EG. The two at the top, land on platform and grab the 4 capsules. Smack up the lower two, or they fall out the visplane and you lose the lock ons. Land at the bottom and hit the check, shortly after getting a Perfect from the Hornet and the WGT's.

Up to Checkpoint 6

Jump the next platform and combo the beetles+AC's. From this point on, caution is good. Taking a hit and losing your Perfect Bonus is VERY undesireable.

Shortly afetr this, we meet the uber 1337 ORANGE WHIRLY THINGS (OWTs). These are no different from WGTs but provide 2 lock ons a piece. Just get 12x up here, as the 1x on its own after the 11 wont be worth anything and hit the switch to suspend the weight. Proceed up and smash a few meteors (20 points each) and combo the enemies over the large void. As well as the two AC's that float past shooting at you, and get ready to enter the 3rd and final vertical climb.

Hit the spring at the bottom and jump onto the black crates. Jump and hover and whirl the thumbstick like crazy, letting go of B when you begin to descend. This'll give you a Perfect, or it should atleast X) Just make your way u to the top and use the springs and hovering to get maxxx combo's.

Again, in the drop at the top, get the enemies in the format of 'Top 2/Bottom 2' as they drop off the visplane, sadly.

Hit the check and hop onto the railcar thingy.

To the Goal Ring!

There are LOTS of cannisters here. Aim backwards as you go down the slope to get the cannisters behind you, and get an 11 combo as you get to the loop. Aim off to the left and aim for the cannister,s, although this is tricky. Get the 3 cannisters straight after the loop and aim to the left to get the canisters ahead. Lastly smash the 6 cannisters just over the incline. Combo the enemies just after here.

Now were in the final tunnel, were stuck with the Score displayed now if were outside the time bonus (which we should be) aren't we? Wrong. If you let the Weird Machine Thing in the tunnel get close enough to you, you can lock onto its spikes. Odd. Anyway, do so a few times for an extra 1K or something similarly small, before you exit the tunnel and fall across the Goal Ring. Voila! Mission beated with a huge Score!

Happy Blasting!

Ironically I beat my PR (and the record for M1) while playing through the level, and finished in 12:4x:xx. </random trvia>

Was that for M1? If so, you had more points than me for the 1st and 6th checks (Those are the only 2 I remember) :o

I owned the last segment X)

Those were for m5.

m1 went like this:
1st checkpoint: 10390
2nd checkpoint: 14360
3rd checkpoint: 21910
4th checkpoint: 64390
5th checkpoint: 73540
6th checkpoint: 98690
End: 148370 (+2260 time bonus) = 150630.

Wow... O_O
Looking at this makes me feel like I could've gotten ~160k on m5...

But don't think you've won, just yet! I'm sure I can get about 153k if I try to get everything without worrying about a time bonus.

Of course, now that everyone else knows this strat, I'm gonna have to do an uber job here...

I was a few points (literally) behind your 6th check  Score, I messed up some lock-ons in the final tunnel.

Im halfway through an M5 run that should topple 160K.

EDIT: BLEURGH. I made dumb mistakes and lost atleast 5K of lock-on points. Ended up as 156070. It'll do.

EDIT2: Psyknux I hate you.

I'm sure you'll hate me more in just a little bit... >:) ("Now you know why I am the best!")

Just give it UP, already! Don't you have other strats to work on? Don't mind me, I'm just doing some pwning, here. :D

Ooh, ooh! Here's some stats, just because...

Scores at Checkpoints:
m1: 11940, 16320, 25700, 69660, 78730, 95370, 104730, 155950 (+1760 time bonus) = 157710
m5: 16850, 23330, 32130, 71550, 82780, 99200, 105270, 157410 (+1960 time bonus) = 159370

I seem to do worse when taking my time, so I'm sticking to my strat of trying to get through quickly.

Oh, dont worry. I WILL get those back. Maybe the time I spend grabbing every ring and smashing the meteors and collecting Chaos Drives and such adds up to less if I get 2K Time Bonus *shrug*. I actually beat both your Check 6 Scores, so as long as I dont fork up the lock on combo's on the last rail (Which I did)....j00r going down bitch.

I see...so it's personal, huh?

And...I wasn't trying to gloat...sonicam. Sorry if it seemed that way...I'm not that kind of person...most of the time... :(

And don't think I'm stopping now just because I hold the record, RPG. My goal is 160k for m1 and 165k for m5. Possibly even higher...

And yes, getting ~1500-2000 time bonus > rings + chaos drives. This is because you usually end up (or at least I usually end up) getting a majority of the rings anyway, especially with a Magnetic Shield. And since most enemies are hovering where there's no floor/path, getting Chaos Drives is dangerous. I mean, risking dying just so I can get 10 points is...eww. I mean, if it were, like, a Gold Beetle or something, sure. Btw, where is the Gold Beetle in this stage?

And of course you beat my final checkpoint score (which is actually #7, I guess I overlooked one while watching the video): I don't go out of my way for rings/chaos drives (which means less points). The time bonus makes up for that. =P

I beat your last Checkpoint Scores by more than what you get in Time Bonus.

EDIT: Owned. New Record: RPGnutter got 160250 on SA2(B) / Scores / Cosmic Wall (Mission 1) January 8, 2006 - 8:45 AM

101xxx last check.
2680 Time Bonus.

Told you I'd get it back, now for M5.

New Record: Psyknux got 166640 on SA2(B) / Scores / Cosmic Wall (Mission 1) January 9, 2006 - 12:00 AM. Now who's the one that got owned? =)

I see you like using my strategy of getting a time bonus now. Interesting...so much for 'retiring'...160250? That's the best you can do? (Which is great, of course, but still...)

Btw, are you gonna revise the guide you submitted? You know, removing the part where it says get all the points you can without trying for a time bonus? Just wondering...

I got 109060 at the final check with a 2080 time bonus. I wonder if 170k is possible? Probably, since you always seem to do better than me between the last check and the end. Maybe if we can also find the Gold Beetle...

Anyway, time to take m5 back...tomorrow after college...I'm too tired right now...

Stupid apostrophes not showing up correctly on comments...oh well...

I hope SBW's not too angry that there still aren't any S2 or SAdv2 strats up yet...

If it weren't for the fact you post your Scores at the checkpoints and other such information, and that I've already beaten you twice, I'd disbelieve that.

Its about a 700 point advantage over getting everything in the level.. Im using the premise of 'every little helps' *shot*

Im still 'retired'; But Cosmic Wall Score, and Twinkle Circuit for that matter are my levels and thats how its staying. And no, it isn't, it was just good enough to beat whatever you had :P

Nope, Unless someone's aiming for above 160K, the extra 700 or so points from a 2.5K Time Bonus is outweighed by just getting every point in the level.

Somewhat doubtful, as I seem to lose out on 5K up to the last check. Admittedly most of that is in that last drop, I can never seem to combo up the 2 sets of enemies at the bottom. As for the Gold Beetle, I wish I knew.

The gold beetle in Cosmic Wall is near the beginning.  From the walkway with a Hornet and 6 green targets, stand on the near side and jump off to the left.  You'll find what you're looking for, and can shoot it.

^ Does that apply to both m1 and m5? In any case, thanks, SM; sometimes it's annoying trying to find Gold Beetles, especially in a level as huge as this. Well, time to try for 170k on m1 (and 165k on m5)!

Who cares whose domain it is as long as I get the strat?

Though actually I'm looking more for IP1, where Taco claims to have a vid but doesn't (at least not on TSC). But I know RPG won't even touch that for a while.

Also wow I thought this topic died.
<Tails> also "GET BLUE SPHERES" on a black-and-white TV remains the best special stage of all time

<Achlys> wat ave you done!
<Spinballwizard> apparently killed your h key

Also here we are, considerably later than planned!

Also I am typing this from memory, Charlie has my DS so she has something to do tonight.

Spindash at the start, jump as soon as the platform slopes down, jump over the spikes and over the area after it, hold down when you hit the wall on the other side so that you roll into the spring. Continue holding down so you roll up the slope, so that you dont go as high up into the air. Hit the spring, Right+R, it the spring, Right+R through the enemy, run right. Jump on the curve at the top of the slope up to the upper area, run right and jump when the platform goes vertical and land on a rail, grind it to the end and hit the spring. Jump up the funky-wheel-gravity platforms, start holding R as soon as you jump off the 2nd. Release it while against the Spring Pad thing to hit a ceiling just to the right of it and fall back to a slope, hold R again immediatly after releasing so that it charges back up straight away, run up the slope to the right and release it facing right to go up to the '1st' check.

Anything below 21/22 is good here, but go for sub 19 if your after a sub 50 overall.

Run right and up the slope, holding left a little near the top to cut your air time. Jump over the gap to the right and then jump again and over the spikes. The longer you spend in the air here (moving right) the better, as it keeps your speed better than landing and running. Follow the level from here until you run upside down, start holding R about halfway across the upside down part, then once 'back to normal' again, stop and release it facing right (near the springs). Aim to land in the Directional Booster thingy.

Go right. Once you exit the 'on-rails' part, just follow the level, and its various springs (making sure you roll down (up)?) the long slope on the ceiling just after there. You'll then roll up (down?) a slope and land near another Directional Booster doodad. Go in it and go up. Follow it and it throws you out onto an upside down rail (IIRC, if it doesnt, you end up on one shortly after). Then on a 'normal' rail, charge a Tag Action as you get near the end, wait for the block to move to move a little and release it so that you hug the left wall on the way up, then simply land on the moving spring up there and Right+R to the Goal Star/Ring/Whatever.

Voila, sub 50 when done right :o
Did you not think I had a mind?
